Opinion Writing & Library Annoucements

2/24/2015

Hello Team Ward Parents,

We have some exciting news to share.  Team Ward has a new website for some of our best opinion writing.  As many of you know, we've been working hard to write reviews of our favorite toys, restaurants, places, and more.  We have also started learning about what makes a good book review.  So I created a new website for our class where students and parents can read the reviews.  We are very excited about it!!  The web address is http://teamward.weebly.com/.  I have also added a link to the top of this website.  Please check the website periodically over the next couple of weeks to see if your child's reviews have been published yet!

I also wanted to share some information from Mrs. Sabin, our fabulous Sprague librarian.  Next week is World Read Aloud week and our class will be participating in many exciting literacy activities.  Mrs. Sabin is collecting photographs of students reading at home and other places.  She is displaying them around the school.  If you have a picture or want to take one of your child reading a book, please send it in as soon as possible.

Here is an announcement about a fundraiser related to World Read-Aloud Week as well.

$ Our Change Counts! $

World Read Aloud Day is an awareness day advocating for literacy as a right that belongs to all people, celebrated around the world annually on the first Wednesday in March.  World Read Aloud Day motivates children worldwide to celebrate the power of words.

By raising our voices together on this day, we show the world’s children that we support their future: that they have the right to read, to write, and to share their words to change the world.

Here at Sprague School, we recognize that there are children, both near and far, who do not have equal access to quality books. Today, we choose to “Read it Forward” by raising money to purchase quality reading materials for Beacon Place, a community center, which offers children in Lake County the resources they need to develop as stronger individuals. Please help us make a difference in the lives of these children.

You can help. Bring spare change to support our fundraiser. Money will be collected Feb. 23rd through March 6th in the Sprague Library.
