Team Ward Parents,

We certainly have been busy in first grade!  It's hard to believe the first trimester is coming to and end.  Last week we finished planting seeds, carving our pumpkins, and estimating and counting the seeds inside them!

We will be celebrating Halloween at Sprague on Friday, November 1st.  Please see the excerpt from the Sprague newsletter below.  We're looking forward to a great party!  Enjoy the rest of your week:-)

Hi Team Ward Parents,

The students have asked that I share some web links with you!  The first is a link to our spelling city website.  When you go to it, you should see a list of all the team colors.  Your child selects the color first before choosing an activity.  This website has some great features, including "Teach Me" which teaches the spelling word if they forgot it or "Test Me" which gives them a spelling test.   

The second link is called Storyline Online.  It is sponsored by the Screen Actors Guild and features well-known actors and actresses reading stories.  This is a nice resource for showing children how to read with expression. 

The last link is for Starfall.com.  This website is a great resource for learning letter sounds and spelling patterns.  It starts with short vowels and progresses up to r-controlled vowels.  The website has some additional activities that might be fun for your child.  Let me know if you have any questions about these websites or you have problems accessing them.
