Hi Team Ward Parents,
Thanks for checking our class website! We've been extremely busy these last few weeks. Here are some highlights:
-Halloween Party! Thanks to our room parents and other parent volunteers who helped run everything so smoothly:-) The kids had a great time!
-Geometry - The students enjoyed learning all about 2 and 3-dimensional shapes during our geometry unit. We have now moved on to learning about place value and adding 10. Please keep an eye out for a few more yellow math sheets in your child's HOOT folder so you can discuss these math topics at home!
-"Small Moments" - The students are so excited to have "published" their first piece of writing in first grade. They chose one of MANY stories from their writing folder to revise, edit, and publish for our first author celebration. We will get together with another class to read our stories and celebrate our successes are real authors. I'm looking forward to sharing these with you at conferences.
-Parent-Teacher Conferences - I hope that everyone had a chance to sign up for parent-teacher conferences. I'm looking forward to discussing your child's progress in first grade and showing you some of their work samples. Please log in to Skyward to view your child's report card prior to conferences.
-IXL - Hopefully you received the note about using IXL to practice math skills at home. It contained your child's username and password. If you are wondering which skills/categories your child should practice, here are a few choices under the category "First Grade Skills" that would support our current unit: -Counting and number patterns A.3, A.7 (these are both related to tens and ones), A.10 (counting forward and backward), Place Value I.1 - I.5, and any of the addition and subtraction activities.
-Spelling - Please continue to practice spelling at home with your child. The additional practice at home helps them truly master their words for that week. I appreciate your support!
-Sun and Moon - We will begin our science unit called "Sun, Moon, and Earth" next week. If you have a few minutes in the evening, see if you can spot the moon tomorrow (Saturday). It should be FULL!!
I look forward to meeting with everyone for parent-teacher conferences. Until then, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
