Team Ward has made so much progress in the last month! We have built stamina for independent reading, reading with a partner, and math workshop. We have also started learning some spelling routines, such as how to sort words by patterns, spelling games, and "no look" sorts. I am so proud of how well our team is doing routines, completing work, and being bucket fillers.
We are working on chapter 3 in math, learning about how number bonds translate to addition and subtraction sentences. I have also introduced the commutative property and the concept of equality. For example 3+4=7, 4+3=7, and 3+4=4+3. This is very challenging for first graders conceptually, but we will work on it all year:-)
Every week we're learning about new apps that support our learning. This week we learned about "Number Rack." It's been great to use during math lessons to show our thinking and learning with visuals.
We are still working our opinion unit in writer's workshop, learning how good writers support their opinions with a lot of reasons. Soon we will start writing reviews of some favorite things and we'll have another iPad assignment to complete at home.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
