It's hard to believe it's already mid-April!! Here are some highlights from recent weeks:
*We had great fun and learned a lot during our study of solids and liquids before spring break. We are now studying the life cycles of various organisms, including butterflies, praying mantises, and frogs. It been very exciting to watch the butterflies in our classroom change and grow.
*In writer's workshop we began our study of nonfiction chapter books. The students are writing books about many different topics, including Pokemon, swimming, and "my sister." Next they will pick an animal to research and write a chapter book about it.
*We finished our math chapter on collecting data and graphing and started the next chapter in addition and subtraction with numbers up to 40. We are using base ten blocks to build numbers and confirm our answers. Our work in this chapter is very important because first-graders need this foundation to be successful with addition and subtraction with regrouping (carrying and borrowing) next year.
*We had the chance to interview Dr. Adler and Mr. Andy, a Sprague custodian, and had several visits from Firefighter Steve to learn about fire safety.
*We're looking forward to many more exciting learning experiences this spring. Thanks for your support.
